Simplicio and religion

I overheard Simplicio's conversation with his friend a library one day. Studying for a test, Simplicio decides to bother his friend with a simple complaint, or statement if you will.

"No offence to the Muslims and Christians, but I think that religion does not show that you are more disciplined." Simplicio said. His companion just nodded indifferently, focused on his reading. "If you need a god to tell you how to go through day to day life, how does that show that you're disciplined? It just shows that you are unable to be independent." Simplicio added.

"That's why I'm a free-thinker. I can do anything I want without needing a "god" to tell me what to do." He finally declared. His friend just couldn't be bothered, buried in books.

My argument to Simplicio:

How does being able to do anything you want shows discipline? How do you know what are the right things, the right ways, to do in life? How do you know if

We are but mere humans. We need guidance at all point in life. If anything, following God's commands are the truest mark of discipline. Being able to abide by difficult and challenging principles makes you more disciplined and matured, especially if these "commands" makes us better humans.

Muslims can fast for a month, pray five times a day, refrain from pork and alcohol, and other haram foods. Christians go to church every week (mostly without fail), and they pray before going to sleep. Hindus (and Buddhists) don't eat beef. All these challenges makes people with religions more disciplined as they have to abide by the rules of their religion.

Meanwhile, you eat anything you want, do anything you like and live by your own 'rules'. You have no restrain and run wild. Way to be disciplined, Simplicio.

AEP Coursework

Assalamualaikum,
As of yesterday, the deadline for the coursework was finally reached. Everybody had to stop working on their work and submit to the teacher to lock up. It's a great milestone to finally reach. And I really hope I will do well.

In other news, I had a terrible nightmare last night. I dreamt I received my O levels results and it was less than perfect. Ok, no. It was terrible. I pretty much failed everything. I felt so real, imagine the relief I felt when I woke up. It was a wake up call for me. I need to buck up, and work this last 37 days before my papers.

Pray for me.
Salam...Peace..

Preliminaries and Art

Assalamualaikum.
Yes, a third blog post in this week. Perhaps to make up for my previous lack of blogging. Indeed my second prelims have started. I've done my English, Social Studies and Elementary Mathematics Paper 1, papers so far. Everything SHOULD go fine, but hey, we know my life, there's bound to be a screw up at every corner. Tomorrow there's Chemistry, and the next day EMaths Paper 2 along with Malay Composition.

Prelim 2 will only last 2 weeks, unlike Prelim 1, which lasted a MONTH. That's because there are no holidays, etc. So yeah! English Oral is next Monday.

Art is due in 3 weeks. I'm dead.

Haha. It's finally here. My prelims. And in 70 days, I'll be doing my O levels.

Salam...Peace.

P.s. I also have English O Level Orals next Monday! Gasp!

Simplicio and the alcohol

Here's a short story for your enjoyment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was talking to a person named Simplicio. As we conversed, the topic of alcohol and Islam's view of it was brought up.

He asked me eagerly, "Can you drink alcohol?"

"No." I answered, simply.

"Even on rare occasions? Say, a holiday or a celebration? Perhaps a little sip?" He pursued.

"No, not a sip, not ever. Alcohol is forbidden in Islam. Some crudely call it the devil's urine." I explained. "Why do you drink alcohol? Why do you need to drink it, to celebrate an occasion? It's not a necessity, I'm sure you can live without it." I inquired.

He looked at me with an astounded look of disbelief. "How could this person say such a thing, did he not know about the beauty of alcohol?" he thought.

"It's nice. At times you get high, and you feel happier than you are. It brings a sense of joy and ecstasy to the drinker. I'm sure you'd like to experience that occasionally?"

"No. There are other ways to feel enlightened and at peace. Peace is part of Islam. Alcohol brings many more harms too. Alcohol can cause intoxication, it destroys your liver, it causes people to do many stupid things. Like drunk driving." I rebutted, slightly annoyed that he wouldn't understand. Simplicio looked exasperated, as if to mock my ignorance.

"Look, you wouldn't know anything about alcohol. It's delicious, and it's a good thing to have it." he said, in desperation and scoffed at my lack of intelligence, as if he knew what was better. He walked away, shaking his head, with the aura of higher intellect, thinking he has lost a person from his cause.

We all know, who truly lost who. :)

113 Days

Assalamualaikum,
It is now the month of July. I have since calmed down and regain my footing on my sanity from my prior breakdown. I have 113 days left before my first paper. 50 days left to Prelim 2. And that number is only getting smaller.

Yet here I am, dragged all the way to Johor because my parents 'wants to'. Now, when school has started, you decide to go out. What about my hell of a holiday? Either way, it's a waste of my precious time. Inconsiderate.

That is all.

Eclipse

Assalamualaikum,
I haven't blogged in awhile. I'm just gonna post a short note. Basically I got crappy results. Now I'm mugging the entire holidays down. So yeah. There's supposed to be a total lunar eclipse today, at 3AM-5AM. Kinda late, but I can't sleep so might as well.
Salam. Peace.
